Judges of the Supreme Court and the Baku Court of Appeal Participated in a Training Programme in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

An international training programme entitled “Digital Justice: International Standards, Information Security and Human Rights” was held in Tashkent, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, under the auspices of the Justice Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by Mr. Teyyub Mukhtarov, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mr. Ali Mammadov, Judge of the Baku Court of Appeal.

The programme covered both theoretical and practical aspects of a wide range of contemporary issues, including the investigation of cybercrime and the forensic analysis of digital evidence (including blockchain and the darknet), the international legal framework for combating corruption, ethical standards in judicial proceedings, the protection of human rights, safeguarding freedom of expression, and the protection of women and children from violence.

In addition to representatives from Azerbaijan, the programme brought together judges from Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, representatives of judicial training institutions, leading experts from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UNICEF, and UNESCO, as well as distinguished national and international academics.

As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also visited the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Yunusabad District Court, and the Centre for Islamic Civilization to gain first-hand insight into their activities.

The training programme contributed not only to enhancing participants’ professional knowledge and practical expertise on current issues in the field of digital justice, but also to strengthening institutional cooperation among judicial training bodies of the participating countries.
